“I’m not a rapper/ I’m a hustler.” City Boy, not only, embodies the philosophy of rap, but also what is told in the city streets of Chicago. Unlike, many rappers from Chicago, City Boy can easily be seen making a music video in Chicago, partying on the West side, and doing a live performance in southside. He accepts his city for all it is, this is why The Chi calls him City Boy and this is why his lyrics are quickly bringing a new level to the game .
City Boy’s current projects involve his (label) group mixtape with M.M.G (Millions Music Group) , along with this, “Time Is Money” mixtape with DJ V-Dub (Midwest Mixtape Bully). He has also released the single, “FlyBoy” featuring Ben One. CityBoy has also worked with such artists as DJ Khaled (We The Best Music Group), DJ Nasty (We The Best Music Group), Ray Lavender (Konvict Music), Gorilla Zoe, and Jason Miller (Konvict Music). Additionally, his last release was single featuring R. Kelly, titled “City Boy” that was a popular and successful download on iTunes.
Raised in Logan Square/Humboldt Park, City Boy, at early age, learned the ins and outs of making money from the streets. This lifestyle not only caused him to understand the importance of making money, but also led him to have a passion for rapping. It was a creative outlet for him when life on the streets became too tense. It can easily be seen in his lyrics and work ethic. According to Status from Status TV Chicago, “What he brings to the Chicago rap game is the will to succeed at any cost. His lyrics are uncut dope.” It is not an understatement when he raps, “I’m City Boy/ I carry the City.”
It is no wonder DJ V-Dub has described him as one of the realest of the streets. City Boy’s mixtape entitled, “I’m Die Getting Money”, has been an anticipated MixTape. The Chi has accepted him as a new voice to the rap game, it’s only a matter of time before the whole country is rapping along with him, “My Money Talk & My Money Rap Too." |
